Once upon a time, on the shore of the deep blue sea,
روزی روزگاری، در کنار دریای آبی و عمیق،
a fisherman and his wife were living in a tiny cottage.
ماهیگیری با همسرش در یک کلبه‌ی کوچک زندگی می‌کردند.
The fisherman used to go to the seaside every day and fish with his fishing rod.
ماهیگیر هر روز کنار دریا می‌رفت و با قلابش ماهی می‌گرفت.
He was quite content to live like this, but his wife was not as happy as he was.
او از این زندگی ساده راضی بود، اما همسرش اصلا مثل او خوشحال نبود.
“Ugh! Look at that disgusting cottage! Moldy and damp everywhere. I am tired of cleaning every day!”
اه! نگاه کن به این کلبه‌ی کثیف و نمور! همه‌جا کپک زده. خسته شدم از این‌که هر روز تمیز کنم
The fisherman was very much in love with his wife, but no matter what he did, he could not make her happy.
ماهیگیر عاشق همسرش بود، اما هر کاری که می‌کرد، نمی‌توانست او را خوشحال کند.
If he brought her fish, she wanted crab. If he picked apples, she craved pears.
اگر برایش ماهی می‌آورد، خرچنگ می‌خواست. اگر سیب می‌چید، گلابی طلب می‌کرد.
One day, the fisherman went fishing as usual. He swung his fishing rod into the water and started to wait.
روزی، ماهیگیر طبق معمول برای ماهیگیری رفت. قلابش را داخل آب انداخت و منتظر ماند.
After a few hours, the tip of his fishing rod finally trembled.
بعد از چند ساعت، سر قلابش بالاخره تکان خورد.
“Oh! A fish hit the hook, but… ouch! This must be a stubborn, big fish!”
اوه! یه ماهی گیر افتاد، ولی… وای! باید ماهی بزرگی باشه، خیلی مقاومت می‌کنه

ماهیگیر قلاب را کشید، کشید و کشید، و با تعجب دید که سر قلابش یک ماهی پهن طلایی و درخشان گیر کرده!

لطفاً منو آزاد کن، ماهیگیر! منو نکش! در واقع، یه آرزو کن، من برآورده‌ش می‌کنم، چون تو منو نجات دادی

ماهیگیر با هیجان زیاد به خانه برگشت.
“Why did you come back early? Didn’t you catch fish? Couldn’t you at least bring some fruit?”
چرا زود برگشتی؟ مگه ماهی نگرفتی؟ حداقل یه میوه نیاوردی؟
“No, darling. I caught a fish today, but… but… but that fish was talking! He told me he was actually a prince!”
نه، عزیزم! امروز یه ماهی گرفتم، ولی… ولی… اون ماهی حرف می‌زد! گفت که در واقع یه شاهزاده‌ست

چی؟ بعدش چی شد؟

خب… ازم خواست یه آرزو کنم، ولی من تو شوک بودم و سریع آزادش کردم توی آب

— یعنی یه ماهی جادویی پیدا کردی و بدون این‌که چیزی بخوای، آزادش کردی؟ باورم نمی‌شه! تو زندگیشو نجات دادی، حداقل می‌تونستی یه خونه بخوای
“Go catch that fish again and ask for a new home to make me happy!”
برو دوباره اون ماهی رو بگیر و یه خونه‌ی جدید بخواه تا من خوشحال بشم
The fisherman could not refuse his wife’s request and went back to the seaside.
ماهیگیر نتوانست درخواست همسرش را رد کند و دوباره به کنار دریا رفت
“Flounder, flounder, fish prince! I just wanna make a wish. Come on, make this wish come true! Tick-tock, tick-tock!”
ای ماهی پهن، ای شاهزاده‌ی دریا! می‌خوام یه آرزو کنم! زود باش، این آرزو رو برآورده کن! تیک‌تاک، تیک‌تاک!
The fish just came out of the water.
ماهی از آب بیرون آمد.
“What do you want, fisherman? Tell me.”
چی می‌خوای، ماهیگیر؟ بگو
“My wife is not happy at all. She’s tired of living in a cottage. She wants a nice house.”
— همسرم اصلاً خوشحال نیست. از زندگی توی کلبه خسته شده. یه خونه‌ی قشنگ می‌خواد.
“So go home, fisherman. She has a new home now.”
پس برو خونه، ماهیگیر. حالا یه خونه‌ی جدید داره.
The fisherman ran home and saw his wife standing in front of a perfect house.
ماهیگیر با عجله به خانه برگشت و دید همسرش جلوی یک خانه‌ی عالی ایستاده است.
The inside of the house was full of brand-new furniture, and everywhere was immaculate.
داخل خانه پر از وسایل نو بود و همه‌جا تمیز و مرتب بود.
“Oh, husband! We will no longer live in a cottage but in a wonderful house. And everything is new and clean!”
وای شوهرم! دیگه توی یه کلبه زندگی نمی‌کنیم، حالا یه خونه‌ی عالی داریم! همه‌چیز نو و تمیزه!
“Yes, my wife. Now we can live happily ever after in this house, right?”
آره، عزیزم! حالا می‌تونیم تا آخر عمر توی این خونه خوشبخت زندگی کنیم، درسته؟
“We can never know that, my darling.”
کی می‌دونه، عزیزم؟
That night, the fisherman’s wife could not sleep.
آن شب، همسر ماهیگیر خوابش نبرد
As soon as the morning came, she made another request from her husband at the breakfast table.
به‌محض این‌که صبح شد، سر میز صبحانه یک درخواست جدید از شوهرش کرد
“Husband, this house seems too small for us. I want a bigger house… even a palace!”
— شوهرم، این خونه برامون زیادی کوچیکه. یه خونه‌ی بزرگ‌تر می‌خوام… حتی یه قصر!
“What?!”
— چی؟!
“I want to be a queen! Don’t you understand? Go and tell that to the fish prince!”
— می‌خوام یه ملکه باشم! نمی‌فهمی؟ برو به اون ماهی بگو!
The fisherman went to the seaside with thoughts in his head.
ماهیگیر با فکرهای درهم‌برهم به سمت دریا رفت.
“Flounder, flounder, fish prince! I just wanna make a wish. Come on, make this wish come true! Tick-tock, tick-tock!”
— ای ماهی پهن، ای شاهزاده‌ی دریا! می‌خوام یه آرزو کنم! زود باش، این آرزو رو برآورده کن! تیک‌تاک، تیک‌تاک!
“My wife is not happy at all.”
— همسرم اصلاخوشحال نیست.
“Why, fisherman?”
— چرا، ماهیگیر؟
“She wants to have a palace.”
— می‌خواد یه قصر داشته باشه.
“So go home, fisherman. Your wife now lives in a palace.”
— پس برو خونه، ماهیگیر. حالا همسرت توی یه قصر زندگی می‌کنه.
When the fisherman returned, he saw that there was now a huge palace where his house was.
ماهیگیر وقتی برگشت، دید که به جای خانه‌اش یک قصر بزرگ ایستاده است.
And his wife was sitting on a huge throne in the palace hall.
و همسرش روی یک تخت پادشاهی بزرگ در سالن قصر نشسته بود.
“My darling, you really have become a queen!”
— وای عزیزم، واقعاً یه ملکه شدی!
“Yes.”
— بله.
“So, are you happy now?”
— پس، حالا خوشحالی؟
“No… I actually want to be the Empress, not just a Queen!”
— نه… در واقع، می‌خوام امپراتریس باشم، نه فقط یه ملکه!
“What?! A fish can’t make you an Empress! Do you understand?!”
— چی؟! یه ماهی نمی‌تونه تو رو امپراتریس کنه! می‌فهمی؟!
“Let the fish prince decide that! Come on, move! Go ask the fish to make me the Empress!”
— بذار شاهزاده‌ی دریا تصمیم بگیره! بجنب، برو به اون ماهی بگو که منو امپراتریس کنه!
The poor fisherman went to the seaside sadly to make his wife happy.
ماهیگیر بیچاره با ناراحتی دوباره به سمت دریا رفت تا همسرش را خوشحال کند.

— همسرم هنوز هم خوشحال نیست.
“Well, is that so? So what does she want this time?”
— واقعاً؟ این بار چی می‌خواد؟
“She… she wants to be an Empress.”
— اون… اون می‌خواد امپراتریس بشه.
“So go home, fisherman. Your wife is now an Empress.”
— پس برو خونه، ماهیگیر. حالا همسرت یه امپراتریس شده.
When the fisherman came running back, he could not believe his eyes. The palace was now much larger than before. Moreover, there were guards at the door.
ماهیگیر با عجله برگشت و چشمانش از تعجب گرد شد. قصر حالا خیلی بزرگ‌تر از قبل بود. علاوه بر آن، نگهبانانی در ورودی ایستاده بودند.
His wife, on the other hand, was now sitting on a more glorious throne as an Empress.
از طرفی، همسرش روی تختی باشکوه‌تر به‌عنوان امپراتریس نشسته بود.
“Oh, my darling! You really have become an Empress!”
— وای، عزیزم! واقعاً امپراتریس شدی!
“Yes.”
— بله.
“So, are you happy now?”
— پس، حالا خوشحالی؟
“Hmm… I don’t know. We’ll talk about it later. I’m so tired today. We better sleep now.”
— هوم… نمی‌دونم. بعداً درباره‌ش حرف می‌زنیم. امروز خیلی خسته‌ام. بهتره الان بخوابیم.
The fisherman and his wife lay on the bed to sleep.
ماهیگیر و همسرش به رختخواب رفتند تا بخوابند.
The fisherman fell asleep, praying that his wife would not want anything more from him.
ماهیگیر با دعا خوابید که همسرش دیگر چیزی نخواهد.
However, his wife did not sleep again.
اما همسرش باز هم نخوابید.
She had been thinking all night about what more she could want from that magic fish.
او تمام شب فکر می‌کرد که چه چیز بیشتری می‌تواند از آن ماهی جادویی بخواهد.
A week passed.
یک هفته گذشت.
The woman called her husband before her and made a request.
زن، شوهرش را صدا زد و خواسته‌ی جدیدی مطرح کرد.
“Husband, time keeps running out.”
— شوهرم، زمان داره از دست می‌ره.
“I want to control time. I want to live above the clouds and rule the sun and the moon!”
— می‌خوام زمان رو کنترل کنم. می‌خوام بالای ابرها زندگی کنم و بر خورشید و ماه حکومت کنم!
“What are you saying, wife?! Why do you want such a thing? Why is this abundance, wealth, and power not enough?”
— چی داری می‌گی، زن؟! چرا همچین چیزی می‌خوای؟ این همه ثروت و قدرت کافی نیست؟
“If you want me to be happy, go to that fish prince now and tell him my wish.”
— اگه می‌خوای خوشحال باشم، همین حالا برو پیش اون ماهی و خواسته‌ام رو بگو.
“I can’t do this, my darling. Please stop now.”
— نمی‌تونم این کار رو بکنم، عزیزم. لطفاً دیگه بس کن.
“Oh? But… don’t you want me to be happy?”
— اوه؟ اما… نمی‌خوای من خوشحال باشم؟
The fisherman risked everything to make his wife happy and went to the seaside again.
ماهیگیر با وجود همه‌چیز، برای خوشحال کردن همسرش دوباره به سمت دریا رفت.
“Flounder, flounder, fish prince! I just wanna make a wish. Come on, make this wish come true! Tick-tock, tick-tock!”
— ای ماهی پهن، ای شاهزاده‌ی دریا! می‌خوام یه آرزو کنم! زود باش، این آرزو رو برآورده کن! تیک‌تاک، تیک‌تاک!

— همسرم هنوز خوشحال نیست.
“I’m sorry about that, fisherman. What does she want this time?”
— متأسفم، ماهیگیر. این بار چی می‌خواد؟
“My wife wants to control time. She wants to rule the sun and the moon in a palace above the clouds.”
— همسرم می‌خواد زمان رو کنترل کنه. می‌خواد توی قصری بالای ابرها، خورشید و ماه رو تحت فرمان داشته باشه.
“Alright, fisherman. Go home. Your wife now has what she wants.”
— باشه، ماهیگیر. برو خونه. حالا همسرت چیزی رو که می‌خواست داره.
When the fisherman came running back, neither his wife nor the palace were there.
ماهیگیر با عجله برگشت، اما نه از همسرش خبری بود و نه از قصر!
When he looked up, he saw that the clouds were far away from him.
وقتی به آسمان نگاه کرد، دید که ابرها خیلی دور از او هستند.
“My wife! Where are you?! You are far from me now!”
— همسرم! کجایی؟! تو دیگه خیلی از من دوری!
The fisherman hurried back to the seashore and called the fish prince.
ماهیگیر با عجله به ساحل برگشت و ماهی جادویی را صدا زد.
“Flounder, flounder, fish prince! I just wanna make a wish. Come on, make this wish come true! Tick-tock, tick-tock!”
— ای ماهی پهن، ای شاهزاده‌ی دریا! می‌خوام یه آرزو کنم! زود باش، این آرزو رو برآورده کن! تیک‌تاک، تیک‌تاک!
“What happened to my wife?”
— همسرم چی شد؟!
“I just fulfilled her wish. She gave up everything to rule time above the clouds. So neither you can see her nor can she see you.”
— من فقط آرزوش رو برآورده کردم. اون همه‌چیز رو کنار گذاشت تا بالای ابرها زمان رو کنترل کنه. حالا نه تو می‌تونی اونو ببینی، نه اون می‌تونه تو رو ببینه.
“Oh, fish prince! I saved your life, but I never asked you for a wish myself. I always wanted something for my wife. Please help me! Give me back my wife!”
— ای شاهزاده‌ی دریا! من جون تو رو نجات دادم، ولی هیچ‌وقت برای خودم آرزو نکردم. همیشه فقط برای همسرم چیزی می‌خواستم. لطفاً کمکم کن! همسرم رو بهم برگردون!
“Hmm… You’re right, fisherman. Tell me, what is your wish?”
— هوم… حق با توئه، ماهیگیر. بگو، آرزوت چیه؟
“May my wife always be with me and be truly happy. This is my wish.”
— آرزوم اینه که همسرم همیشه پیش من باشه و واقعاً خوشحال باشه.
“Well, fisherman, go home. Your wife has everything to be happy now.”
— خب، ماهیگیر، برو خونه. حالا همسرت همه‌چیز رو داره تا خوشحال باشه.
The fisherman hurried back home.
ماهیگیر با عجله به خانه برگشت.
But when he arrived, he was shocked.
اما وقتی رسید، حیرت‌زده شد.
His wife was sitting in their old, small hut, wearing her simple clothes.
همسرش در همان کلبه‌ی کوچک و قدیمی‌شان نشسته بود و لباس‌های ساده‌اش را به تن داشت.
“My wife! You are back!”
— همسرم! برگشتی!
His wife turned to him with a gentle smile.
همسرش با لبخندی ملایم به او نگاه کرد.
“Yes, I am back. And… I feel so light, so free. I am finally happy.”
— بله، برگشتم. و… احساس سبکی و آزادی می‌کنم. بالاخره خوشحالم.
The fisherman’s eyes filled with tears. He held his wife’s hands tightly.
چشمان ماهیگیر پر از اشک شد. دست‌های همسرش را محکم گرفت.
“I’m sorry for everything, my dear.”
متأسفم برای همه‌چیز، عزیزم.
“No, I should be the one to say sorry. I was blinded by greed and power. But now I understand… True happiness was here all along, with you.”
— نه، من باید معذرت بخوام. طمع و قدرت چشمانم را کور کرده بود. اما حالا می‌فهمم… خوشبختی واقعی از اول همین‌جا بود، با تو.
They embraced each other, and for the first time in a long while, they both felt at peace.
آن‌ها یکدیگر را در آغوش گرفتند و برای اولین بار بعد از مدت‌ها، احساس آرامش کردند.
And from that day on, they lived simply but happily, with love in their hearts.
و از آن روز به بعد، ساده اما خوشبخت زندگی کردند، با عشقی در دل‌هایشان
