عبارات فعلی سه‌ کلمه‌ای

عبارات فعلی معمولاً از دو قسمت “فعل + قید” یا “فعل+ حرف‌اضافه”  تشکیل می‌شوند. البته تعداد محدودی از عبارات فعلی نیز وجود دارند که از سه قسمت تشکیل‌ شده‌اند. بهترین راه برای یادگیری لغات و اصطلاحات عبارت است از یادگیری آن‌ها در متن نه به‌صورت مجزا.

 

این عبارات را هرگز نمی‌توان به‌صورت مجزا ترجمه کرد زیرا در این صورت معنی آن به‌کلی دگرگون می‌شود. این عبارات به قرار زیر می باشند:
 

1. break in on = interrupt (a conversation):     قطع کردن صحبت کسی    

 I was talking to Mom on the phone when the operator broke in on our call.

داشتم با مادرم تلفنی صحبت می‌کردم که اپراتور مکالمه ما را قطع کرد.

 

2. catch up with = become current with the latest information:     در جریان آخرین اخبار قرار گرفتن

 After our trip, it was time to catch up with the neighbors and the news around town.

بعد از سفر، وقت آن بود که در مورد همسایگان و اخبار شهر خبری کسب کنم.

 

 

3. check up on = examine, investigate:      بررسی کردن، سرکشی کردن به

 The boys promised to check up on the condition of the summer house from time to time.

پسرها قول دادند که هرچند از گاهی به خانه تابستانی سرکشی کنند.

 

 

4. come up with = to contribute (suggestion, money):    همکاری کردن، کمک کردن

 Claudia’s class came up with a theme for the spring concert.

کلاس کلودیا برای کنسرت بهار کمک کرد.

 

5. cut down on = reduce, decrease:    کاهش دادن، کم کردن

 We tried to cut down on the money we were spending on entertainment.

سعی کردیم میزان پولی را که برای تفریح خرج می‌کردیم کاهش دهیم.

 

 

6. drop out of = withdraw from participation:    انصراف زدن                

I hope none of my students drop out of school this semester.

امیدوارم در این ترم هیچ‌کدام از دانش آموزان از مدرسه انصراف نزنند.

 

 

7. get along with = have a good relationship with:      کنار آمدن با

 I found it very hard to get along with my brother when we were young.

وقتی بچه بودیم من خیلی سخت با برادرم کنار می‌آمدم.

 

 

8. get away with = escape blame:        قسر دررفتن

Carlo cheated on the exam and then tried to get away with it.

کارلو در آزمون تقلب کرد و بعد سعی کرد قسر در برود.

 

 

9. get rid of = eliminate:         خلاص شدن از

The citizens tried to get rid of their corrupt mayor in the recent election.

شهروندان سعی کردند در انتخابات اخیر از شر شهردار فاسدشان خلاص شوند.

 

 

10. get through with = finish:        تمام کردن

 When will you ever get through with that book?

پس اون کتاب را کی تمام می‌کنید؟

 

11. keep up with = maintain pace with:        پا به‌پای.. آمدن

Kim couldn’t keep up with the other runners in the marathon.

کیم نتوانست در مسابقه ماراتن پا به‌پای دیگر دوندگان پیش برود.     

                                        

12. look forward to = anticipate with pleasure:         بی‌صبرانه منتظر چیزی بودن

I always look forward to my summer vacation.

همیشه  بی‌صبرانه منتظر تعطیلات تابستان هستم.

 

 

13. look down on = consider inferior:        با دیده تحقیر نگریستن

Chris looks down on Charlie’s car because it’s an older model.

کریس با دیده تحقیر به اتومبیل  کهنه چارلی نگاه کرد .

 

 

14. look in on = visit (somebody):        دیدن کردن از

We were going to look in on my brother-in-law, but he wasn’t home.

به دیدن برادرشوهرم رفتیم اما خانه نبود.

 

 

15. look out for = be careful, anticipate:       مراقب بودن، پیش‌بینی کردن

Good instructors will look out for early signs of failure in their students.

مدرسین خوب مراقب علائم  ناکامی در دانش آموزان خود هستند.

 

 

16. look up to = respect:        احترام گذاشتن به

First-graders really look up to their teachers.

دانش آموزان ابتدایی خیلی به معلمین خود احترام می‌گذارند.

 

 

17. make sure of = verify:     تائید کردن

 Make sure of the student’s identity before you let him into the classroom.

قبل از اجازه ورود به دانش آموزان به کلاس  هویت آن‌ها را تائید کنید.

 

 

18. put up with = tolerate:       تحمل کردن

 We must put up with high humidity in the summer.

ناچاریم در تابستان رطوبت بالای هوا را تحمل‌کنیم.

 

 

19. run out of = have no more of something:       تمام کردن

The runners ran out of energy before the end of the race.

قبل از رسیدن به خط پایان مسابقه، انرژی دوندگان تمام شد.

 

 

20. take care of = be responsible for:         مراقبت کردن از

It requires a lot of money and time to take care of a horse.

مراقبت کردن از یک اسب، وقت و پول خیلی زیادی می‌خواهد.

 

 

21. talk back to = answer impolitely:       تو روی کسی ایستادن

The star player talked back to the coach and was thrown off the team.

بازیکن ستاره تو روی  مربی ایستاد و از تیم اخراج شد.

 

 

22. think back on = recall:        به یادآوردن

I often think back on my childhood with great pleasure.

اغلب دوران کودکی‌ام را با لذتی فراوان یادآوری می‌کنم.

 

 

23. walk out on = abandon:        ترک کردن، رها کردن

Her husband walked out on her and their three children.

شوهرش او را همراه با سه فرزندش رها کرد.
