THE YOUNG MAN AND THE OLD MAN
پیرمرد وجوان
A proud young man was looking for a new pastime.
جوانی مغرور به دنبال تفریحی جدید بود.
He heard about people hiking in the national parks and decided to try it for himself.
اودر مورد پیاده روی مردم در پارک ملی شنید و تصمیم گرفت که شخصا این کار را امتحان کند.
As he started his stroll, an old man walked up to him.
به محض اینکه شروع به قدم زدن کرد، پیر مردی به سمتش آمد.
“Don’t go this way,” the old man said. “Beware.
پیرمرد گفت:از این مسیر نرو . مراقب باش.
The paths are not clear. It’s easy to become lost.”
مسیرها واضح نیستند. آدم به راحتی گم می شود.
But the young man disagreed with the old man and bragged that he had a perfect understanding of the park.
اما مرد جوان حرف پیرمرد را نپذیرفت و لاف زد که پارک را خیلی خوب می شناسد.
“I studied maps of this area,” he told him.
اوبه پیرمرد گفت “من نقشه این منطقه را مطالعه کردم.”
“I believe I have a thorough knowledge of these trails.
معتقدم اطلاعات کاملی در مورد این مسیرها دارم.
I won’t become lost.”
گم نخواهم شد.
old man listened to the young man and then admonished him for his pride.
پیرمرد به حرفهای جوان گوش کرد و سپس او را بخاطر غرورش نکوهش کرد.
“I have walked these trails my entire life,” he said.
اوگفت “من این مسیرها را در تمام عمرم رفته ام.”
“If you think you will be safe, then go ahead.”
اگر فکر میکنی خطری متوجه تو نخواهد بود پس برو.
The young man ignored the old man and started along the trail.
جوان به پیرمرد محل نگذاشت و در امتداد مسیر شروع به حرکت کرد.
Whenever he had to choose between an easy or difficult route, he always chose the more difficult option.
هر زمان که می خواست بین راه سخت و مشکل یکی را انتخاب کند، همیشه مسیر مشکل تر را انتخاب می کرد.
In addition, he was not conscious of which direction he was going.
بعلاوه از این که در کدام مسیر حرکت می کند اطلاعی نداشت.
After a while, he decided to return home.
بعد از مدتی تصمیم گرفت به خانه برگردد.
Because his course through the wilderness was so indirect, he had no idea where he was.
بخاطر اینکه مسیرش از بین صحرا خیلی غیر مستقیم بود، نمی دانست که کجاست.
He looked at his map but could not pinpoint his location.
به نقشه اش نگاه کرد اما نتوانست موقعیت خود را تعیین کند.
He walked one path after another but soon realized he was lost.
او از مسیری به مسیری دیگر می رفت اما خیلی زود متوجه شد که گم شده است.
The sun was going down, and sudden strong winds gave a hint that it might rain.
خورشید داشت غروب می کرد و بادهای تند ناگهانی خبر ار این می دادند که احتمال دارد باران ببارد.
Immense clouds filled the sky.
ابرهایی عظیم آسمان را پوشاندند.
Awesome sounds of thunder were audible from all directions.
از همه طرف می شد صدای مهیب رعد و برق را شنید.
It echoed off the mountains.
طنین آن در کوه ها می پیچید.
The thought of the eventual storm tormented the young man.
فکر طوفان نهایی او را آزار می داد.
He hurried in one direction, but soon switched out of confusion.
او با شتاب وارد یک مسیر شد و خیلی زود از سردرگمی نجات یافت.
Luckily, it led him out of the park.
خوشبختانه مسیر او را به خارج از پارک هدایت کرد.
When he arrived home, he knew that he had acted like an idiot.
وقتی به خانه رسید فهمید کار احمقانه ای انجام داده است.
He realized he was lucky to be alive.
او فهمید خیلی خوش شانس بوده که زنده مانده است.
He decided to listen to people with more experience than himself.
او تصمیم گرفت به افراد با تجربه بیشتر از خودش گوش کند.
